The Pierson/Bridgehampton girls varsity basketball Lady Whalers improved to a record of 4-1 in League VIII play after beating the Stony Brook Bears, 34-25, in an away game on Tuesday, January 17. Emily Hinz, was effective getting to the line for the Lady Whalers, and led the team in scoring with 9 points. Bridget Canavan was able to add 8, Rachel Saidman tallied 6, while Sydnee McKie-Senior and Sariah Cafiero both scored 4. The Lady Whalers have ridden a three game win streak into third place, and are now only one game behind the first place Shelter Island Indians. Pierson/Bridgehampton next has a home game today, January 19 at 6:15 p.m. against the Southold Settlers.
Lady Cosmos Basketball
Things don’t look like they could get much worse for the Ross Lady Cosmos girls varsity basketball team, who are still without a win this far in the season. Stuck in the basement of the League VIII standings, the Lady Cosmos came close to capturing that elusive first win this past week. On Friday, January 13 Ross lost in a 26-22 squeaker to the Stony Brook Bears. Emma Betuel led the team with 9 points, while Julia Perez contributed with 4. On Tuesday, January 17 the Lady Cosmos then lost to the Port Jefferson Lady Royals (2-3), in a 47-38 offensive showcase. The Cosmos will have a chance to redeem themselves in two upcoming away games, first against Smithtown Christian on Friday, January 20 at 4:30, then against Southold on Monday, January 23 at 6:15 p.m.
In preparation for baseball season, The Sag Harbor-Bridgehampton Little League will be holding a series of events for its upcoming 2012 season. Online registration for the 2012 Little League season is currently open at the website Sagharborlittleleague.org. The deadline for registration is Sunday, March 25. The league will be holding a series of baseball clinics for registered players under six years old in the Pierson High School Gym on March 4, March 11 and March 18.
