A 16-year-old East Hampton resident was allegedly beaten and then stabbed in the back with a knife last Sunday, October 16, Southampton Town Police report. He was taken to Southampton Hospital that day, where he was treated for his injuries and released. Police confirm that he is now in stable condition.
The teenager had allegedly attended a house party at a residence near Scuttle Hole Road in Bridgehampton, police say, and was reportedly on his way back to his car with friends when he was involved with a confrontation with an unknown group of people.
“They got jumped,” said Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa of the incident. She could not confirm the exact number of people involved, but indicated that “there were several people.”
According to the young man’s testimony, the altercation began when he reportedly observed “a black male” allegedly “hitting on” his female friend. When he attempted to intervene, the 16-year-old reported that he was struck in the face. According to his testimony, he only realized the extent of his injuries when he woke up later in his friend’s car while en route to Southampton Hospital. It was then that he discovered he had a stab wound to his lower back and contusions on his face near his left eye.
As of press time, Sgt. Costa said the Southampton Town police force is still unsure of who the perpetrators might be, but she put to rest rumors that the attackers had come from the Shinnecock Reservation.
“Absolutely not,” she stated. “We have absolutely no idea who they are.”
She replied in a follow-up email just before press time that the detective department is currently working on several leads, but there is “nothing tangible to date.”
Because this investigation is ongoing, the Southampton Town Detective Division is asking for anyone with information on the incident to contact the department at 702-2230, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. They ensure all calls will be kept confidential.
