Using selections from the work of 13 artists, curator Tripoli Patterson explores the bonds of both similarity and contrast in “Side X Side,” a group show at the Tripoli Gallery in Southampton.

Opening Saturday, the show features highlights from artists Linda K. Alpern, Jonathan Beer, Herbie Fletcher, Eric Freeman, Fe?lix Bonilla Gerena, David Matterhorn, Melanie J. Moczarksi, Lola Montes, Matisse Patterson, Saul Steinberg, Nick Weber, Darius Yektai and Yung Jake.

In “Side X Side,” artwork that differs in medium and subject matter is linked by color, such as in the pairing of Eric Freeman’s “Untitled” and Darius Yektai’s “Untitled Wave Series.”

The 13 artists are as diverse as the show itself.

Specializing in creating sculptures and installations from found objects, such as driftwood or rusty antiques, Matisse Patterson last showed at “Danger Deep Water” the Tripoli Gallery in 2011.

Her brother, Yung Jake, was recently featured in the Huffington Post alongside music legends Pharrell Williams and Jay Z as one of “10 Rappers Who’ve Dipped Their Toes in The Art World’s Waters.” “E.m-bed.de/d,” a “music video experience that is as meta as it gets,” according to the Huffington Post, was featured at the New Frontier Art Festival at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

An opening reception for “Side X Side” is Saturday, May 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will be on view through May 10. For more information, visit tripoligallery.com or call 377-3715.
