In anticipation of bitter cold, freezing rain and icy roads, the Sag Harbor School District has announced all schools will be operating on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, January 7. The morning Pre-K session is cancelled.
The Bridgehampton School District will also be having a two-hour delayed opening Tuesday, according to Dr. Lois Favre, superintendent for the district.
A bitter cold wind chill advisory is in effect from midnight Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The temperature Tuesday is expected to be well below freezing, with a high of 16 degrees and wind chill values as low as -8 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Suffolk County residents who are without shelter during the extreme cold can contact the Temporary Housing Assistance Unit at (631) 854-9517 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. At all other times, please call the Emergency Services Unit at (631) 854-9100.
If you are in need of home heating fuel or an emergency burner repair, call the Suffolk County Department of Social Services Home Energy Assistance Program at (631) 853-8820 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or the Suffolk County Department of Social Services Emergency Services Unit at (631) 854-9100 at all other times.

This Weekend’s Pierson Middle/High School’s scheduled homecoming festivities have been rescheduled due to the wet weather and high winds caused by tropical storm Kyle.
The varsity boys soccer game against the Ross School that is scheduled for Friday, September 26, is rescheduled for next Friday, October, 3 at 4:00 p.m. and will be played behind the school. Varsity girls soccer in Easthampton will be played at 4:30 p.m today and the varsity girls volleyball is at home today at 4:30 p.m. against Center Moriches and will be played as well.
The girls scheduled field hockey home game against Hampton Bays is rescheduled for Monday September 29.Â The alumni field hockey game scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 28, is canceled and there is no word on rescheduling that game for now.Â
The district has rescheduled the bonfire and pep rally for next Saturday, October 4 from 6pm to 9pm at Long Beach. The schools will announce the winners of King and Queen and the Queen’s court for grades 9-12. Each grade will also perform a class cheer that they created.
The homecoming ceremonies will continue into Sunday, October 5, where a parade will begin at 9am behind Apple Bank where students will walk behind town to Nassau Street and up through Main Street to Mashashimuet Park. Each grade 9-12 created a superhero-themed float for the day. Skits will follow in Mashashimuet Park. Grades 6-8 will walk in the parade with self-designed banners.
Tropical Storm Kyle is expected to pass by Sunday.
