Sag Harbor Liquors won both their games last week, Wednesday against the Immaculates then Thursday against the Hysterical Society to give them a 3-1 record in the Sag Harbor Fastpitch Softball League. Team Mott played an 11 inning game against Studio 89 before claiming victory on Thursday and remained the only undefeated team until Tuesday’s game with the Immaculates.

On Tuesday, July 5, the Immaculates had a double header. The first game, against the previously undefeated Motts was a solid 10-6 victory for the Immaculates.

“It was due to solid defense by the whole team,” according to Immaculates manager, Bruce Schiavoni.

Schiavoni and teammates readily agreed that the key player in the game was Mike D’Angelo, who had a home run in the sixth that scored three. D’Angelo went three-for-four in the first game and was responsible for five RBIs.

The Immaculates second game against The Hystericals had some surprises as well. Up 12-0 at the end of the second, the Immaculates were ready for an early night due to “the Mercy Rule.”

The newest member of the Hystericals, Rick Wyche, came to bat, and it started to look like a game. Wyche’s first at bat was a two run homer that put the Hystericals on the score board, 12-2. The Hystericals added three more runs in the fourth, which were met by three earned by the Immaculates, including an inside the park homerun hit by Immaculates’ Evan Harse.

By the top of the fifth, the score was 16-5, too close to mercy. The Hystericals played their first seven inning game, losing with their usual good spirits, 23-11 to the Immaculates.

According to Tim Mott, “We are still trying to reschedule a few games lost to rain and the late start. Nothing is solid now, we are just playing when we can.”

This week will see the Bridge play the Hystericals at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, followed by Studio 89 playing the Immaculates. Monday’s first game is between Motts and Sag Harbor Liquors, followed by Studio 89 and the Bridge. Tuesday, Mott plays the Hystericals, then the Immaculates play Sag Harbor Liquors. Wednesday, July 13, Mott plays Studio 89 first, then the Hystericals play Sag Harbor Liquors.
