In our launch of XO this spring, we asked East End health and recreation enthusiasts to tell us about why they are drawn to their pursuits. We came away with a new appreciation for bodysurfing, meditation, off-road biking, yoga and local food.
In this issue we have asked five of our community’s health and recreation instructors to give us a sense of the benefits of their chosen disciplines and what we might encounter if we were to give those a try. And so this time, stand-up paddling, indoor cycling, training to compete, table tennis and healthy eating get their due.
Those topics only cover a small part of what this XO holds; there are features touching on locally available pastimes such as “skurfing”, sailing, horseriding, hula-hooping and “functional medicine”.
There are also small columns pointing out the “wheres” on fresh water swimming, hiking to a view and kiteboarding and providing perspectives on sun salutations and games to keep your mind sharp.
As quickly as our summer goes, we hope this XO will help you explore more of what the East End has available for your good health. Our centerfold map of “health destinations” shows dozens of resources dedicated to sustaining your well-being.
The East End is home to a remarkable set of “healing” practitioners and offers a natural beauty people seek out for recreation and revitalization. Once again, let XO, through its articles and advertisers, be your guide to those worlds.
