Colman Vila was one of the most dominant pitchers in New York State during his senior season at Pierson High School in 2013, the year he led the Whalers to the Class C Final Four while posting a 0.00 ERA, a state record that can never be broken.

Vila enrolled at the University of Delaware last fall and suddenly was no longer a big fish in a small pond. He worked out with the team during a red-shirt freshman year, but did not make the roster, which means he still had four years of eligibility remaining. After this fall’s practice season, however, all signs point to Vila making the varsity roster as a lefty out of the bullpen.

For the second consecutive season, the Southold Settlers have brought an end to the Pierson boys soccer season in the Suffolk County Class C Championship game, this time on a winning goal with just 42 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Another Suffolk County Championship has come home to Sag Harbor, this time from an new crew of Lady Whalers.

The Pierson girls cross county team defeated Shelter Island, Stony Brook and Southold to the county Class D championship at Sunken Meadow State Park on Friday. The Lady Whalers totaled 33 points to beat Shelter Island by just three points.

In a stunning reversal from a year ago, The Sag Harbor Express captured the coveted Golden Kickball Saturday at the North Sea Community House in Southampton, winning the fragile trophy given annually to the winner of the East End Media Kickball Tournament.
